Troy, is an American quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League.  He has led the club to several trophies and the Super Bowl Championship. Furthermore, he has always been a winner from a young age.

Early Life, Family, Education

Retired Footballer, Troy was born on November 21, 1966, in West Covina, California, United States. Kenneth Aikman and Charlyn Aikman are his parents.

Troy’s father was a pipeline builder. Aikman grew up in California with his two older sisters, Tammy and Terri.

Meanwhile, Troy’s parents noted that his legs were slightly bent below his knees and his toes curled beneath his feet when he was eight months old.

Dr. Bill McColl confirmed Troy had a minor type of clubfoot after discussing it with him.

He had casts on his feet for 13 months and then a unique shoe for three years after the casts were removed.

Troy’s parents moved to Henryetta, Oklahoma, when he was 12 years old. He enrolled in Henryetta High School to finish his high school career.

He then went on to earn his degree from UCLA Extension and the University of Oklahoma.

Troy Aikman Career | Early Career

Troy showed an early interest in baseball rather than football. He had always hoped to play baseball at the University of Southern California and eventually go to the major leagues with a friend.

As the small child grew older, he began to prefer football over baseball.

He competed in several events throughout high school and was an all-around good guy.

Many universities wanted Aikman to play baseball for them, but he decided to stick with football and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, which was coached by Barry Switzer.

He started his career as a freshman quarterback in 1984. Unfortunately, he was tracked and shattered his ankle during the second season against the Miami Hurricanes.

Troy eventually quit the game and went to UCLA with his coach, Terry Donahue. However, owing to collegiate restrictions, he did not play in any games during his rookie season.

In addition, Troy played two games at UCLA, one with the Aloha Bowl and one with the Cotton Bowl. Lastly, he finished his career as the second-highest career passer in UCLA history.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys Dallas selected the native American as the first overall choice in 1989. However, in his first NFL season, Troy was defeated 28-0 by the New Orleans Saints.

He lost the first four games of his career, fractured a finger, and finished 1-15 that year. Troy faced a lot of criticism, and some newspapers dubbed him “Ache Man.” As Troy once stated:

He finished the regular season 13-3 after a strong start in 1992. In Super Bowl XXVII, Aikman led the Cowboys to a 52-17 triumph over the Buffalo Bills.

Unfortunately, The Godfather Roy was unable to play in the 1994 game owing to a number of ailments.

The Cowboys concluded 1995 with the best record in the NFL, scoring 3,300 yards. Similarly, the Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX by a score of 27-17.

Furthermore, in 1997, Troy became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to have 3000-yard seasons.

Following a series of health concerns following the 2000 season, he retired as the Cowboys’ all-time top passer in April 2001.

Post-retirement

Troy’s football career came to an end at the age of 34. After retiring in 2001, the quarterback became a color analyst on Fox’s NFC telecasts.

Aikman also appeared in the Simpsons episode “Sunday, Cruddy Sunday” with Miami Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino.

In 2009, he graduated from UCLA’s sociology department and attended the social department’s graduating ceremony.

Furthermore, Aikman also became a member of the National Football Foundation and a co-spokesman for Rent-a-Center in 2010.

In November 2013, Aikman received the Silver Anniversary Award 25 years after the end of his college athletics career. This honor is awarded to six former college players each year, and Troy was one of them.
