An American left-handed professional baseball starting pitcher, Tyler Skaggs was born on July 13, 1991, in Woodland Hills, California. Moreover, Tyler’s parents were Darell Skaggs and Debbie Skaggs.

At Santa Monica High School, Skaggs started his path to becoming a professional baseball player.

He pitched 63 13 innings during his junior year of 2008, compiling a 1.11 earned run average (ERA), 89 strikeouts, 44 hits, and 22 walks.

Tyler thus won the Ocean League’s Player of the Year honor.

Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim selected Tyler Skaggs with the 40th overall choice in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.

Skaggs also made 27 starts for the Rawhides and Bears, posting a 9-6 record, a 2.96 ERA, and 198 strikeouts while doing so. And to make matters worse, the Diamondbacks named him minor league pitcher of the year.

2012

With Mobile, Tyler Skaggs left for the 2012 season. He was eventually promoted by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League, a Triple-A affiliated team.

He also participated in the All-Star Futures Game for the second time in 2012.

Not to note, Skaggs debuted in Major League Baseball on August 22, 2012. In his first game, he held the opposition to two runs over 6 13 innings, guiding the club to victory.

Similarly, Tyler had a 5.12 ERA in seven starts for the Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball in 2013.

Return to the Los Angeles Angels

In a three-team deal, the Diamondbacks returned Skaggs to the Angels on December 10, 2013.

Hector Santiago went to the Angels, and Adam Eaton went to the Chicago White Sox. In a similar vein, Mark Trumbo and two other players went to the Diamondbacks.

Tyler started 18 games in 2014 and had a 4.30 ERA up until his injury in August. He underwent ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction as a result of his injury, ending his season.

Skaggs decided not to pitch for the whole 2015 season while he was rehabilitating in order to properly heal.

Nevertheless, he joined the Angels again in 2016, more than a year after the operation.

2016-2019

Skaggs returned to the Angels in 2016 and started ten games following the rest period.

However, Tyler missed more than three months of the 2017 campaign due to injury, which prevented him from playing in more than just 16 games.

In a similar vein, Skaggs missed three more months of 2018 because of a muscle ailment.

With 24 starts, a 4.02 ERA, and 129 strikeouts in 125 13 innings, he had a 24-start season in 2018.

He also started the 2019 campaign in the rotation. Tyler, however, was forced to sit out since he sprained his left ankle and was put on the inactive list. On April 26, he was subsequently called back to the field.

Tyler Skaggs | Death

Skaggs overdosed on fentanyl, which led to his untimely death. Skaggs was agonizingly discovered unconscious in his hotel room in Southlake, Texas, on July 1, 2019.

Although Tyler’s family was devastated by his sad death, they were unable to sit still. To further look into the circumstances surrounding his passing, they engaged Texas lawyer Rusty Hardin.

After the investigation, one of the Angels’ workers acknowledged giving Skaggs oxycodone.

Thus, on October 15, 2020, accusations relating to Tyler Skaggs’ premature death were brought against former Angels communications director Eric Kay.
