In the comedy Johnny Be Good, she played the girlfriend of a top high school quarterback prospect, and she made a brief appearance as the goddess Venus in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen; during her entrance, she briefly appears naked, as a reference to Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Thurman co-starred with Glenn Close and John Malkovich in the Oscar-winning film Dangerous Liaisons as an innocent adolescent who is raped by a dishonest man.
Breakthrough
After playing Maid Marian in the 1991 British adventure picture Robin Hood, Thurman began filming Dylan Thomas, a biopic on Welsh poet Dylan Thomas starring her then-husband Gary Oldman and herself as Caitlin Thomas.
Thurman featured in Gus Van Sant’s 1993 adaptation of Tom Robbins’ novel Even Cowgirls Get the Blues as a young woman with unusually enormous thumbs. She starred in the 1993 drama Mad Dog and Glory as a waitress opposite Robert De Niro and Bill Murray, and she auditioned for Stanley Kubrick.
In Quentin Tarantino’s neo-noir black comedy Pulp Fiction, Thurman played Mia Wallace, the wife of a Los Angeles mobster (1994).

Comeback with Kill Bill
Thurman’s later films included the romantic dramedy Beautiful Girls, in which she played a pretty clever love interest, and the comedy The Truth About Cats and Dogs, in which she played a sassy blonde model. Thurman and Ethan Hawke co-starred in Gattaca in 1997. Poison Ivy was her character in Batman & Robin (1997).
Thurman starred as Fantine in Bille August’s 1998 film adaption of Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables. Thurman reunited with Quentin Tarantino for the two-part martial arts action film Kill Bill (2003-2004), in which she played assassin Beatrix Kiddo seeking vengeance on her previous lover.
She then co-starred in the romantic comedy Prime alongside Meryl Streep, in which she played a divorced and lonely businesswoman who initiates a romance with a much younger man. Thurman co-starred alongside Luke Wilson in 2006’s My Super Ex-Girlfriend as a superhero.
Thurman appeared in the 2008 romantic comedy The Accidental Husband alongside Colin Firth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In the historical drama Bel Ami (2012), she played a powerful and wealthy mistress, a trophy wife in the romantic comedy Playing for Keeps (2012), and Lois Lane in an installment of the anthology film Movie 43 (2013).
Television Debut
